3 Day Learn to Sail Course        February 11-13, 2011

Pink Shell Resort, Fort Myers Beach, FL

"Challenging.  Intense.  Knowledge-driven. Empowering. Thrilling. Physical. Fun!"

These thoughts and more ran through my head as I dove into the Offshore Sailing School’s 3 Day Learn to Sail course at South Seas Island Resort in Fort Myers Beach, Florida.
Other than a real affinity for the water and watersports, I have close to *zero* boating experience, knowledge or background. Yet,  I completed this fast-paced course and feel a real sense of accomplishment. Even though the weather was rainy the first day or so, I feel now that learning in challenging conditions prepared me, along with my top-notch instructor, for the challenges to come as I continue my sailing adventures.
The meaningful experience and pride which came from learning how to sail has stayed with me ever since the course. In fact, the week following my course, I couldn't get the feeling of being out there on the water out of my head...there really is nothing like it!
I have since crewed one of our Colgate 26 boats on a day-long trip from Fort Myers Beach up to the Offshore location at Captiva Island Florida....... what a beautiful ride that was!  The seas were calm, the breeze was cool and it was eighty and sunny for the entire trip.  My shipmate and I saw many dolphins, often very close to the boat....some jumping in the air, some following us.  The four hour ride went by in the blink of an eye.
As a crew member, I was of value to the team due to a rock-solid foundation of sailing education provided by Offshore.  I felt I could crew to make the ride as fun, safe and enjoyable as possible on the trip.  Sailing not only opened up a new world for me, but challenged me to learn more - next time on the big boats!
