Sail for Cancer Cures

Offshore Sailing School raises funds to cure and treat blood cancers

Over $60,000 raised at 2011 Leukemia Cup Regatta

April 16, 2011 the St. Charles Yacht Club in Ft. Myers, Florida hosted its first Leukemia Cup Regatta, with competition held aboard seven Colgate 26 sailboats donated by Offshore Sailing School.  The event raised over $60,000 for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society through Regatta entries, a kick-off event honoring local survivors, Regatta corporate and individual sponsors, and an awards party with silent and live auctions.

Offshore Sailing School's dedication to raising funds to help cure and treat blood cancers is on-going.

$25,000 pledged to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS)

We all have our special charities; and Offshore Sailing School's founders, Steve and Doris Colgate, feel strongly about this one. For the past two years, Offshore has been a proud national sponsor of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Leukemia Cup Regatta campaign, which raises funds annually to fight blood cancers. "It is incredible how many people we meet through sailing who have personally been afflicted with lymphoma, leukemia or myeloma.  And even more incredible how often we hear about friends and family with one of these diseases," explains Doris Colgate.

Do you know someone suffering from lymphoma, leukemia or myeloma?

This is Gary Jobson, national spokesperson for The Leukemia Cup Regattas. He is a storied America's Cup sailor, ESPN commentator, world-renowned speaker, author and current president of US SAILING, the governing body of sailing in the U.S. Gary was diagnosed with lymphoma two years after he joined LLS to help organize The Leukemia Cup Regatta campaign; and is the first to say he is alive today because of treatments developed through extensive research to help cure blood cancers. Every year he sails with competitors all over the country in Leukemia Cup Regattas. You can read more about Gary by clicking the Regatta button below.

$25 of sailing course tuitions goes to LLS

Not only does Offshore donate a portion of sailing school tuitions to LLS, we give more than 20 Learn to Sail courses for silent auctions held at Leukemia Cup Regattas around the country each year; and hold occasional sailing clinics at our various campuses with all the proceeds going to help find the cure for blood cancers.

Colgate 26 fleets owned by Offshore Sailing School donated for Fantasy Sail weekends

In addition, whenever LLS asks, we at Offshore Sailing School are happy to donate our fleets of Colgate 26s for special regattas and the annual Fantasy Sail Weekends honoring top fund raisers. In 2004 and 2008 Offshore donated its fleet and faculty time for Fantasy Sail weekends in Florida . October 15, 2011 we will again host Gary Jobson's Fantasy Sail Weekend for top LLS fund raisers, this time in New York Harbor.
